Process

Each piece begins with the exhausting task of collecting, washing and preparing of the plastic bottles before the creative process can even begin.  The sisters scour local ballparks, school grounds, and public spaces and receive donations from businesses and friends who contribute.  The plastic materials are manipulated with a special fusion process that results in a glass-like appearance and feel. Depending on size, EACH piece can take 1-2 weeks to complete and anywhere from 50-300+ plastic bottles.

Bio

The sibling team of Reta and Vana Howell has been creating and designing all their lives. What started a long time ago with mud pies has grown into a laboratory of power tools and rescued materials that would otherwise be poisoning our planet.  The sisters have always had a great appreciation for Art, as well as a great appreciation for the Earth.  Within recent years, the duo decided to merge their interests and take recycling into their own creative hands. With the use of rescued plastics and the incorporation of Light, the result is an enlightening display of modern functional art that serves as a radiant “reduce, reuse, recycle” reminder.
